About Kettle
Kettle started with a heat pump that seemed fine.
The thermostat was happy. The house was warm. But the hourly data our utility was already recording told a different story: the system was quietly running its electric backup heaters when it didn't need to — invisible on the wall, obvious in the data, and costing real money every cold month. The fix was a setting.
That experience became a question: how many Ontario homes are paying for problems that a careful read of their own data would catch? The entire heating and install industry is paid to sell equipment. Nobody in that chain is paid to say "don't buy anything — change this one setting."
Kettle is that missing voice: an independent diagnostic service that reads months of your actual utility interval data — data the province guarantees you for free — and hands you a specific fix with a dollar figure on it. The diagnostic engine was built and validated on the founder's own home first, planted-defect tests and all, before it ever read a client's data.
The independence principle: Kettle is paid by the customer, never by installers or manufacturers, and takes no referral commissions. That's not a tagline; it's the whole point. A second opinion is only worth something when the person giving it has nothing to sell you.
The honesty clause: sometimes the answer is "your system is fine," and sometimes it's "yes, you genuinely need the upgrade." You're paying to know — either answer, backed by your own data, is a win.
